19th-century armorial bookplate of Horace Noble Pym on upper pastedown.
Mid-to-late 19th- or very early 20th-century half-leather with red marbled paper; medium squares; bound by Mansell (binder's stamp on first free upper endpaper verso). On both covers, inner sides of calf outlined by single gilt fillets. Spine with five raised bands, divided into six compartments by transverse double gilt fillets (with a wave-like dotted roll across bands); the compartments thereof gold-tooled to with geometric foliate tools to a centrepiece-and-cornerpieces design; second compartment from head with gilt titling over mahogany morocco; the whole spine with double gilt fillet from head to tail at extreme sides. Textblock trimmed and sprinkled or dyed yellow; red marbled endpapers to match covers, each comprising a pastedown and free endpaper; additional free endpapers at both ends, undecorated.
