Late 19th or early 20th century armorial bookplate of Major General Villiers Hatton on upper pastedown; Eton College School Library bookplate on facing flyleaf, recording Hatton's donation; previous shelfmark on verso.
19th century three-quarter red pebbled leather with marbled paper over millboard, sewn on four recessed supports. On both covers, the leather outlined by a gilt dotted roll; large squares. Spine with five false bands; panels with gilt foliate and ornamental tools (cornerpiece and centrepiece design); second panel with gilt titling ("Chasse du cerf") with date at tail. Textblock trimmed and gilt at head-edge. Endpapers comprising marbled paper matching the covers (pastedown and flyleaf) and plain laid paper (flyleaf).
Misbound: ECL copy has the engraved plates of music following the text proper; the Library of Congress describes that 'Remarques sur la musique' (14 engraved pages) and 'Larcin de l'Amour' (4 engraved pages) are inserted after p. 14 and p. 28 in the text, respectively. (n.b.: p. 14 is unpaginated, but described as if paginated here for ease).
