[Vols. 3-6]: Late 19th or early 20th century armorial bookplate of Major General Villiers Hatton upper flyleaf or pastedown; Eton College School Library bookplate on flyleaf verso or absent, recording Hatton's donation; some vols. with School Library stamp to one leaf following.
Early to mid 18th century Cambridge-style panelled calf; bound in England; vols. 1 and 2 rebacked and repaired (20th century). On both covers, the middle panel framed by blind double fillets with a blind ornamental roll, and a blind foliate stamp at the corners; outer border of blind double fillets; wide squares; board edges tooled with a gilt ornamental roll. Spine [vols. 1-2] rebacked with five raised bands, speckled and with transverse blind fillets; gilt titling over red morocco onlay, with vol. numbers and publication date at foot; [vols. 3-6] with five raised bands, tooled aside transverse gilt single fillets; second panel with title-label (gilt titling over onlaid red morocco: "Ben Johnson works"), the third panel tooled with volume numbers (gilt arabic numerals). Endpapers [vol. 1-2] comprising a bifolium of 20th century plain laid or laid-effect paper (pastedown and flyleaf) with an additional flyleaf of the same; [vols. 3-6]: a bifolium or two leaves of contemporary paper (pastedown and flyleaf only). Textblock trimmed and lightly sprinked red.
