17th-century brown morocco over pasteboards. Covers decorated with blind tools and fillets to form a panel; the same tools are used to form a cross inside the compartment created by the panel; the remaining space (composed by four compartments) includes other blind tools; gilt roll on board-edges; gilt roll on turn-ins. Spine with five raised bands, decorated with blind fillets and gilt titling ("Pietro de Luca"; "La arte del ben pensare"; "Vinegia, 1541"). Textblock trimmed and gilted. Endpapers of marbled (pastedowns and facing flyleaves) and undecorated paper; four flyleaves at both ends of the textblock. Box case showing spine, marbled paper outside and red patterned cloth inside.
Ms. note on plain postcard inserted between rear pastedown and flyleaves, noting Burrell's travels in Europe.
Between boards and textblock: souvenir cards with prayers depicting Pope Pius X, the Virgin Mary, and Christ on the Cross; two water-bus tickets from Venice; bookseller's advertisement for this volume.
