Spine with four raised bands, decorated with gilt tools, fillets, and titling ("Church & State"; "Gladstone. Vol. [I./II.]"; "Lond. 1841."). Textblock trimmed and gilted. Endpapers of yellow (pastedowns and facing flyleaves) and undecorated paper; two flyleaves at both ends of the textblock. Binder's ticket on top left corner of inner front board of v.1.
