17th-century calfskin over pasteboards. Covers decorated with gilt fillets to form a border and a rectangular panel with gilt floral tools at the corners (both fillets and tools are now completely faded); gilt centrepiece with initials at the top: "I W". Spine rebacked in marbled leather with 7 raised bands, decorated with blind fillets and gilt titling over black label ("Speed's history of Great Britain"). Textblock trimmed and sprinkled red. Endpapers of modern wove paper; two flyleaves at the upper end of the textblock, one at the lower end.
