Covers decorated with gilt fillets to form a border and a rectangular panel with gilt floral tools at the corners (both fillets and tools are now completely faded); gilt centrepiece with initials at the top: "I W". Spine rebacked in marbled leather with 7 raised bands, decorated with blind fillets and gilt titling over black label ("Speed's history of Great Britain"). Textblock trimmed and sprinkled red. Endpapers of modern wove paper; two flyleaves at the upper end of the textblock, one at the lower end.
Modern ms. notes in pencil on front pastedown (price) and first flyleaf recto (references to contents within the work).
Includes loose engraved portrait 'of an ancient Briton' before the title page.
Includes title page from 1611 edition before that of 1614.
