Ex dono label of Joseph Frederick Burrell, dated 1983, on front flyleaf. The second volumes has a loose note on headed paper of Frank Hollings book dealer -- it is undated, and refers to one of the plates in this volume.
18th-century calfskin over pasteboards. Covers decorated with gilt roll to form a border; blind roll on board edges. Spine flat, decorated with gilt fillets and titling over red label ("British compendium"). Textblock trimmed. Endpapers of undecorated paper; two flyleaves at both ends of the textblock.
Made up set. The bindings present different tools on the board edges, even if they are overall very similar -- probably they were not bound at the same time.
