Binding

18th-century calfskin over pasteboards. Covers decorated with gilt fillet to form a border; gilt initials "BG" enclosed by a circle form the centrepiece; gilt transversal fillets on board edges. Spine with six raised bands, decorated with gilt fillets, a tool depicting a lion, "BG" initials, and titling ("Maitland's [h]ist: of [E]dinburgh"). Textblock trimmed. Endpapers of undecorated paper; one flyleaf at both ends of the textblock.
