16th-century calfskin over pasteboards. Covers decorated with double blind fillets to form a border; gilt centrepiece with initials A and V on either side; remnants of cloth ties as clasps. Spine rebacked, decorated with blind fillets and gilt titling over red label ("Collecti of armes"). Textblock trimmed. Endpapers of undecorated paper; one flyleaf at both ends of the textblock.
Leaves B4, a7, a8 missing.
Bound up with this volume are 50 leaves of of 16th-century ms. notes relating to heraldry, containing 285 coloured coats of arms with descriptions -- from bookseller's entry on front pastedown. This manuscript appears is split in two, appearing prior and following the printed text.
