The signification of most things that are born in heraldry, with the explanation of their natural qualities, and of those persons that they ought properly to be born by. First, of the lion and its natural qualities, and all other beasts distinctly shewn, as also of birds, of fishes, and all vegetables, as trees, flowers, &c. and mechanical instruments. Several sundry ways of blazon, as they ought to be used, and the degrees of persons. The natural qualities and colours of those precious stones that are mentioned in blazoning coat-armour. Ex dono label of Joseph Frederick Burrell, dated 1983, on front flyleaf verso of sammelband.
Sammelband. 18th-century green and yellow ?mottled calfskin over mill/pasteboards. Covers decorated with two sets of gilt fillets to form concentric borders; two blind fillets form two additional (concentric) panels with tools at the outer corners; gilt dotted roll on board edges; gilt roll on turn-ins. Spine with five raised bands, decorated with gilt fillets, tools, and titling over green labels ("Peerage of Ireland" ; "Crossly"; "1725"). Textblock trimmed, rounded and gilted. Endpapers of marbled (pastedowns and facing flyleaves) and undecorated laid paper; two flyleaves at both ends of the textblock.
This copy presents the preliminary unnumbered leaves at the end of the work; the order of signatures is as follows: [a] A-Y² (-Y2) a2 [b]².
