Scope and content: The loves of the plants is a fanciful treatment of the Linnaean system of classification, with the pistil represented by a maiden, courted by swains to the number of the stamens.

Early 19th century armorial bookplate of Robert Phillipps (1749-1822) of Longworth, Herefordshire, MP for Hereford in 1784-85 and possibly a relation of Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872).

Binding

Late 18th-century tree calf, rebacked in modern plain calf with smooth spine with blind double fillets and black leather spine label; marbled endpapers.
