MS 426
Letter from Jospeh Banks to (?)James Smith [manuscript]
[S.l.], [1784?]
[1] leaf : paper.
Written in English.
Cataloguer devised title.
Scope and content: The note has no date or location and mentions the catalogue of a collection, which Banks says to be particularly rich in minerals, to be sold on the 10th of April. Thanks to this date, it is possible to connect this reference to Linnaeus' collection which was sold on 10 April 1784. It had been inherited by Linnaeus' widow after the passing of his son, and Banks had recommended its purchase to his protégé James Edward Smith, who eventually secured it.
