Ms. note on front flyleaf of the Old Testament volume, dated 1795, reads: "This book together with the New Testament was in our Chapel; and being put into tolerable repair [;] whenever a set is again wanted [it] will do very well for the duty of the said Church". Both volumes have bindings with references to Eton College.
?18th-century reverse calfskin over wood/pasteboards. Covers decorated with blind rolls to form a border, a panel with tools at the corners, and centrepiece (the Old Testament has letters spelling "Eton College" while the New Testament has its coat of arms); blind roll on board edges. Spine with six sewing stations, decorated with blind tools. Textblock trimmed and sprinkled red. Endpapers of marbled or undecorated laid paper.
Old Testament volume lacks title page and presents a glued printed sheet entitled "Proper lessons to be read at morning anf evening prayer, on the Sundays throughout the year". Includes engraving at the beginning of Genesis.
