Scope and content: Example of a book for the active reader. A semi-autobiographical narrative where the novel is written as discrete sections. These sections, with the exception of the first and last, may be read in any order to create a random order of memory and experience in which a journalists returns to Nottingham to report on a football match but recalls and relives many former experiences in the processs.

Inscribed by the author inside the lid of the box: "For Keith Botsford, towards a writers" co-operative, Bryan, 11/7/70", and also signed B.S. Johnson over the title. The recipient was an Anglo-American novelist associated with Saul Bellow.
