The pages were originally folded and sent to John Morley in London; various stamps dated 'London Aug 22 1867' on the last page (f. 8v).
Provenance
In 1867 the manuscript was in possession of John Morley who, according to a ms. note in the accompanying material, gave it to the critic Joseph Knight. Probably through one of his daughters, the manuscript was acquired at some points by 'A. L. Marlow'. It was purchaded by E. P. Warren for £200 in 1913 and then sold in 1929 to Geoffrey Maden who kept it until his death. It was given to Eton College in his memory by his wife Marjorie.
Binding
20th century blue morocco; gold decorations in the turns-ins; five raised bands on spine with gold titling; marbled endpapers; three blue flyleaves at the beginning and end of volume. Stored in a black leather box with on spine 'Foreign Press Reports'.
