Originally edited by Henry Oldenburg, later by N. Grew, R. Plot, W. Musgrave, R. Waller, Sir H. Sloane, E. Halley, and C. Mortimer. Since March 1752 publication has been supervised by a committee of the Royal Society.

Imprints vary; on some early issues printer's initials change to "T.R."; in 1667 James Allestry's name appears; 1683-1685 the place of printing is given as Oxford; later imprint names include: Moses Pitt, Sam.
