An arch in the centre divides the sarcophagus into two scenes. On the far left sits Phaedra flanked by two putti. Two attendants stand anxiously behind her, a third gestures to Hippolytus, who stands on right. Behind and to the right of him are four hunting companions, a horse and two hounds. The right half shows a boar hunt. Hippolytus and two horsemen ride to the attack as the boar emerges from a cave far right behind a tree. Above sits a genius loci. A bearded man stands to the rightof arch with two hounds at his feet. A third hound crouches in front of the boar.
