Description
Content (description)
A satyr leads the way to right, piping, followed by Pan who looks back and encourages the progress of an ass carrying drunken Silenus, who is supported by two satyrs. A tiger rests by the ass. In the background a Pan carries a large jug, followed by a satyr playing a horn. On left two lions draw a chariot in which are Dionysus and Ariadne, Dionysus holding up a great bunch of grapes. Three maenads, looking backwards, precede the chariot, one carrying a basket of grapes on her head, the others playing crotola and tympanum. The procession moves along rocky ground between two entwining vine branches which grow on far left and bear copious leaves and three bunches of fruit on right of relief.
