Description

Content (description)

On left a half-draped youth sits on a mound of rocks facing a youth who stands on right with a cloak over one shoulder and holds a lyre on a pillar in the centre. A dog stands by the feet of the seated youth and looks up at the other. In the background on left stands a shrine, which consists of four pillars standing on a high base and supporting an entablature, on which is fixed a fleshless boukranion. Inside the shrine stands an archaistic statue of Diana, holding a bow. A garland is slung across the front of the shrine and a rod is attached to one of its pillars with fillets. In the background is a spreading oak tree.
