Description

Content (description)

In the background stands a temple, set obliquely; along its side are pilasters, while the front is open but for a low gate. In the pediment are a shield and a snake. On left, in front of the side wall, stands Diomedes, wearing a cloak and with the remains of a sword in his hand. By his leg on left is an altar, on right is a pedestal. He looks right to Odysseus, who comes through the gateway, framed in the front of the temple. He wears a tunic and cloak and cap, and brandishes his sword, with his scabbard in the other hand. He looks back over his shoulder into the temple.
