Description
The background is divided into three levels, of equal width, one above the other. On far left stands a bearded herm to right, wearing a cloak, holding out a jug and brandishing a stick. A putto falls, holding his head as if he has just been beaten. A putto, holding up his tunic round his chest, leans against the first level of the background. Behind him on the second level stands a large krater with leafy ornament. A putto on left holds a jug on its rim, while one on right stands on its shoulder and leans into it. On the first level a putto stands inside an enormous bearded mask and holds a snake out through its mouth. A putto stands on right looking at it. On the third level above this are a thyrsus, a tympanum and a tall basket of fruit. Next on the first level two putti crouch facing one another, about to wrestle(?). A putto stands watching on left while another sits watching on the first level on right. Behind this last figure stands a large fluted bowl on the second level. A putto flies over it from left trailing behind him a long flower garland, the other end of which is attached to a fluted krater filled with fruit in the centre. This putto empties a jug into the bowl, while another perches on its rim and holds his hand in the stream of liquid pouring from the jug. A large jug falls to the ground from the second level, it contents spilling out. A putto stands on far right with his hands clasped over his belly, looking left and smiling. At top right is part of a leafy wreath.
