Description
On right is a group of six soldiers, the three in the foreground wearing cuirasses and holding elaborately decorated oval shields. Of the three in the background only the heads are visible. Five of the six wear plumed helmets, the sixth, in the background on left is the standard-bearer and wears a lion-skin over his head. The standard he holds has an eagle perched on top of a thunderbolt. On left is part of a temple set obliquely. Three steps lead up to an ornate doorway, which is flanked by two columns standing on high pedestals. They support the entablature, on which is the inscription IOVI CAPITOLINO. In the pediment is an eagle with outspread wings.
