Fa 3 Palazzo no. 15
Description
On far right, a nude male, his foot raised on a stone, holds the collapsed figure of a child, resting its head on a tree trunk. The procession is led to right by a nude satyr, who carries a club and a wineskin on his shoulder. A draped Maenad follows, blowing a pipe, with a tiger running by her and looking back to Silenus, who is assisted by a satyr and a child. Then comes a maenad dancing, and another playing crotola in the background. On left nude Dionysus, holding a thyrsus and supported by a satyr, rides in a biga drawn by centaurs, one of whom plays a lyre, the other a horn. A putto stands on the back of the lyre player and holds the reins. A maenad dances in the background. In the foreground a fire burns on a pedestal. A putto fondles a recumbent lion beneath the raised hooves of the centaurs.
