Description
In the centre lies Ariadne. A maenad and a satyr lift her garment from her. Two maenads, one holding an infant, look on in the background left, while Pan, seated on a high rock on left turns to Dionysus, who stands in a biga, supported by a young satyr. Two bearded centaurs draw the biga, the one in the background carrying a krater on his shoulder; the other with a garland round his belly and a putto sitting on his back, has sunk to the ground with his hindlegs and embraces a young centaur. On far left a draped maenad stands cross-legged, leaning on a pillar, a tiger behind her legs. On right of Ariadne a young Pan sits on the ground with a tiger and points to her. A nude satyr playing crotola and a draped maenad playing a tympanum dance together. On far right two females pour libations at a blazing altar, at the foot of a pillar, on which stands the statue of a nude youth. On far left and right grow vines, which spread their tendrils along above the figures to the centre.
