Description
The front of an altar, which is crowned with a tympanum in which a half-draped woman lies on cushions; a putto on left points to her. On the body of the altar, a garland of fruit, flowers and leaves hangs from the horns of rams' heads at the top corners, with crinkled fillets hanging below. Two swans stand on the garland, facing outwards but bending their necks inwards to preen a Medusa head between them. Beneath the garland a dolphin moves right. An eagle with outspread wings stands on a projecting rock at each bottom corner. At top centre a panel bears the insrciption: LUCCEIA HEBENE/ SE VIVA FECIT/ DIS MANIBUS/ M LUCCEIO OPTATO/ CONIUGI SUO PIISSIMO ET/ LUCCEIAE POSILLAE/FILIAE SUAE PIISSIMAE QUAE/ VIXIT ANNOS V ET MENS III.
