Description
The front of an altar crowned with tympanum in which stands the wolf with the twins. On the body of the altar there are decorative mouldings above and below the main face, on which a garland of fruit, flowers and leaves hangs almost to the bottom from the horns of rams' heads at the top corners. At bottom centre two birds peck at the bottom of the garland. Two small sphinxes sit on rocks at the bottom corners. Over the garland a half-draped female reclines on a deep rock line. Two winged putti frolic around her and a bird perches on her toe. At top centre is a large panel with the inscription DIIS MANIBUS/ M CAECILIO SP F SUC/ RUFO SOLIARIO AB LUCO/ SEMELES EX TESTAMENTO/ EIUS CALVISIA ZOSIME ET/ M CAECILIUS CALLIPPUS/ HEREDES/ FECERUNT.
