Description
139 and 141 show one altar, 140 and 142 another.
139: front. The altar is surmounted by volutes with floral decoration. At the top corners are rams' heads from which hangs a garland of fruit and flowers. A bird perches on the garland. Below it is an object, perhaps a dish or a ship. At the bottom corners sphinxes sit on projecting rocks. At top centre is a panel with the inscription L PINNIUS SP FIL/CELSUS/ VIXIT ANNIS XIIX DIEEUS IIII
141: side. A long garland hangs from rams' heads at the top corners. Over it is an oenochoe flanked by two rosettes. At bottom centre, between two sphinxes at the corners, a bird stands on a rock and reaches up to the garland.
140: front. The altar is surmounted by volutes, at the front of which are putti standing in shells, and between them a corselet and shields in relief. A garland of fruit and flowers hangs from rams' heads. On the garland perch two birds with outspread wings; they turn to look over a Medusa head between them. Beneath the garland three putti ride to left on the tail of a sea-horse. At the bottom corners sphinxes sit on rectangular bases. At top centre is a panel with the inscription OCCURSARE CAPRO/ CORNUFERITISTE/ CA/////TO.
142: side. Over the garland which hangs from two rams' heads two birds fly to feed their fledgling. An oenochoe is set above them. Beneath the garland between the sphinxes at the bottom corners a goat suckles a child.
