Description
Ariadne reclines on rocks bottom right at the foot of a tree. A putto, holding an arrow, gestures towards her and leads Dionysus to her. Dionysus is half-draped with a vine wreath on his flowing hair, and holds a thyrsus entwined with vine. A dog(?) sits at his feet on left. On left a draped maenad stands playing a tympanum, while a female kneels on ground bottom left over a basket of grapes. A satyr sits to left on rocks upper left by a tree, playing the pipes and looking over his shoulder to right. In the background right, a female with her garments knotted between her bare breasts carries a great platter of fruit on her head to right. A nude putto sits on the rocks by Ariadne and gestures to the female. A palm tree grows in the background right of centre.
