Description
Content (description)
In centre Venus rises from the waves, supported by two sea-centaurs. On their backs ride two nymphs and four putti, three of whom blow horns. A fifth putto climbs up to the nymph on left. On right and left, moving outwards, are two sea-centaurs, each with a nymph riding on his back. The nymph on left turns her back to the viewer; a putto armed with a bow looks at her, but takes aim towards the centre. The centaur tries to beat off a sea-leopard which clings to his belly. On right the sea-centaur fondles a sea-dragon. There are waves all along beneath the figures with dolphins here and there.
