Description
Content (description)
On right is shown the fight over the skin of the Calydonian boar. Meleager holds the skin and has just killed one of the Thestiades who claimed it and still holds it. His brother draws his sword far right. A fury stands in the background between them. On left Althea burns Meleager's log at an altar, turning away from it to right but compelled by a Fury who brandishes a torch behind the altar. Far right stands Nemesis (?), her foot raised on a wheel, and writes on a tablet. In centre Meleager lies dead on a couch, his armour on the ground. Three women stand in mourning, an old man sits at the side of the couch, while Atalanta sits on left at the foot of the couch with a dog by her stool. A curtain hangs in the background between this scene and that on right.
