Description
105. Curved short side. On left satyr moves right but twists back, playing double flute. Then a maenad, her drapery almost falling from her, dances to left playing lyre, but looks back to right. She and the satyr are dancing around an altar which is decorated in relief with a female figure and on which rests a ram's head. On right a bearded satyr wearing a skin and carrying a thyrsos and krater moves to right.
106. Curved short side. A satyr, wearing a skin, carries a baby on his right shoulder, while a satyr child stands on left. Both children exclaim at the sight of a snake emerging from a cista on the ground. On each side dances a maenad, one with crotola, the other with a tympanum.
107. Side A. The discovery of Ariadne. Drunken Dionysus holding a thyrsus leans on the shoulder of a satyr on right, a great krater in his hand. On left is a tiger and a satyr wearing a fruit garland across his body. These figures turn to right called by a winged putto holding a blazing torch and crouching Pan with a pedum to Ariadne who reclines on rock. A putto on rocks under the lion- head on right draws her garment away form her face. A genius sits by a tree on rocks upper right by the side of the lion-head. Far right a satyr wearing a skin dances, a cista and snake between his feet. On left beneath lion-head a satyr removes a stone from the hoof of Pan who sits on rock seat with satyr mask and pipes by him on the ground. Far left a maenad dances, her drapery billowing, holding a thyrsus on her shoulder.
108. Side B. Dionysus and Hercules. In centre stands Dionysus, fully draped with a skin over his garments, holding a thyrsus and carrying a krater. Behind him on left come four satyrs, a young one with pipes, an old one carrying a tympanum. A half-draped female reclines with her back to the viewer at bottom left and stretches out an arm towards Dionysus. She leans against a rock mound covered with a skin on which lies a bacchic mask. A tiger rests its paw on her leg. On right Hercules lies drunk on his lion skin on rocks, his club on the ground. Pan supports him and gestures to Dionysus. A satyr holds a wineskin on his shoulder in the background. Trees flank this section in the background. Beneath the lion-head on right stands a small Pan. On far right a satyr stands by a tree and gives a baby satyr a drink from an enormous jar. A mask lies on a base by his feet. On far left a satyr wearing a skin and a garland apparently composed of masks holds a tympanum and dances, a Pan mask on a rock mound between his feet.
