Description
The horizontal member is supported on claw legs which curve round figures of putti, each of whom holds a trophy and raises his outer arm over his head; their torsoes end in a fringe of leaves, beneath which seem to be sea-monster coils. At each end of the horizontal member is a head in profile in relief, on right, a bearded male, on left a female wearing a snood, both facing inwards. Vertical members separate these heads from the main section, which shows a figure scene in relief. From left : a warrior emerges from an arched gate in a town wall, over which can be seen three temples; next a rearing centaur draws his bow to right and a female by his feet kneels in supplication to male on right. To left of him stands a female, on right a half-draped male holding a cornucopia stretches out a garland to crown him. On right a river god reclines in a cave surround, behind which a lion leaps to left.
