Description

Content (description)

Neo-Attic krater decorated with fluting around the bottom of the body beneath a band of bacchic figures. In this figured band are a maenad and satyrs dancing (118), a satyr playing the double flute followed by drunken Dionysus supported by a child, and a nude maenad dancing (119). The knobbed lid was made in 1604 by Cosimo Cioli. This vase was believed by Vasari to be 'il talento che Cesare Imperatore diede a Pisa, con lo quale si misurava lo censo che a lui era dato.....'
