Description
Content (description)
Along the bottom of the sarcophagus runs a frieze of winged putti hunting a tigress, boar and deer; there is a tree far left. The main field is decorated with three thick leaf garlands, supported on the outside by two draped females standing on acanthus leaves, in the middle by two putti standing on dolphins. From a cross of leaves at the centre of each garland hangs an enormous bunch of grapes, flanked by fillets falling from the garland. Over the central garland is a gorgon head, over the outer garlands identical female heads with open mouths, long hair and on long necks.
