Description
31: front. Three putti support two garlands of fruit and leaves. Over the garlands are figure scenes on rocky projections. On left the infant Dionysus stands on a pedestal, attended by Silenus seated on rocks on right, and a satyr on a rock seat on left. Far left stands a nymph, leaning on a pillar and watching the scene. Over the garland on right a child reads from a roll to a female seated listening on right. Her head is covered and she rests her elbow on her knee, her chin on her hand. A figure behind this female leans forward and stretches out an arm to the child, resting the other hand on the female's shoulder. A young female stands on left of child. Far left on a pedestal is a statue of an armed female.
32: side. Two putti hold a garland over which a mask in profile to left rests on a rocky ledge. On left is a sketch of a mask in profile to right, belonging to the other end of the sarcophagus.
Only the left part of this sarcophagus has survived, although its present whereabouts do not seem to be known. It was last recorded in the collection of Th. Hammerle in Vienna
