Description

Content (description)

Philosopher with beard arranged in tight long ringlets and hair in small curls. He wears a diadem, from the back of which fillets fall on to his shoulders. The front of the shaft is worked as his chest and on it is the Greek inscription: MAATQNHE/APIETONOY/AOHNAIOM. The shaft, which ends at his waist, stands on a horizontal block, which bears the inscription: PLATO ATHAENIEN/SIS ARISTONIS/FILIUS. Viewed slightly obliquely from left.
