Description
Content (description)
On left a satyr and Pan play pipes while a child, holding a pedum and wearing bells on its chest, dances between them. A maenad with bared breast rides on the back of a goat, which springs to right over a snake and a fallen basket of fruit. There is a tree in the background to left. A bearded male who is also wearing bells on his chest, carries a sheep on his shoulder to right, holding a pedum in his right hand. In the centre, nude Dionysus holding grapes and a thyrsus and wearing a vine garland, reclines on the back of a panther to right over a snake and a fallen basket of grapes. A satyr with a skin slung over his shoulder folllows, holding the tiger's tail. Pan goes before, brandishing his pedum and holding up a tail (? of the skin he wears?) A maenad plays a tympanum. On right a nude satyr sets his hand on the head of a lion, which is sinking beneath the weight of Silenus, who reclines on its back. There is a tree to right in the background. On far right a maenad holds a thyrsus and dances by a round altar laden with fruit.
