Content (description)

114: lid. A bearded man and a woman wearing a diadem, both draped, recline together on a couch. She holds a garland(?). The couch is of cloth covered with floral scrolls in bands. The ends of the couch terminate in a horse head above, a tiger head below. A child or putto stands holding an animal at right end of the couch, another sits with grapes in the fold of his cloak at the other end. Along the base of the couch is a frieze of winged sea-monsters and beneath that an acanthus moulding.
115:front. The front is divided into five niches by six spirally-fluted columns, which support an arched entablature with foliage decoration. In each niche is shown one of Hercules' labours. On left, he forces a bull to the ground and keeps it down with his knee; next he forces a bearded warrior to the ground, and a horse's head appears in the background top right; in the centre, holding a club, he catches an Amazon by the hair as she rides on horseback to right; next he forces Geryon to the ground; lastly he walks to right looking down at Cerberus on left, which is partly hidden by a column as if just emerging from the Underworld.
116: short side. The side is divided into three niches by four columns as on the front. On left young Hercules, with his club and skin in his left hand, holds in his right hand a curved hoe or fork. In the centre a female, perhaps Omphale, stands holding a spindle. On right Hercules stands holding apples in his outstretched hand, the head of a bull on the ground bottom left. 117: short side. This side is divided as the other into three niches. The central niche is filled with a great doorway. On left a woman, her head covered, gazes across at a man on right, who wears a cloak and holds a sword in his right hand, a basket of fruit in his left; he has wings at his ankles.
