Description
An oval sarcophagus, the body of which is covered with strigil fluting, relieved on right by the projecting protome of a horse, on left by that of a tiger. Elaborate mouldings run round the base. The tall lid is decorated with bands of mouldings dominated by the maeander and topped by a band of volutes and floral pattern. According to Bartoli, this sarcophagus comes from the Mausoleum of Caecilia Metella.
