Description
At each end of the sarcophagus is a lion mask: beneath that on the right is a tall basket of fruit, beneath the one on left sit two small females. In the centre, Silenus and three satyrs tread grapes in a vat, while four satyrs tip in more fruit. Above in the background on a rock line recline Dionysus and Ariadne, with three bearded Pans' heads in the background. On left a maenad, partly hidden by Dionysus's knee, points to Hercules, who approaches from left followed by a satyr holding a reed. In the foreground reclines a bearded draped figure, raising his right hand to his head.
