Description
At far left a bearded river god, holding a reed, sits to right on a rock seat with his arm resting on an urn from which flows water. A figure in a short tunic stands in a biga to right; a youth holds the heads of the horses, a dog ( headless) at his feet. In the background a youth holds a cloak to his face. Three men carry the body of Meleager to right, preceded by a bearded man who points back to left. A bearded man grieves in the background, and a youth stands on right with his back to the viewer, turning to left. A grieving woman rushes out with arms outstretched, supported by a woman. Two youths ride on horseback to right, where an old man sinks at the knees, supported by two youths. On right a woman kneels in front of a tomb and sticks a dagger into her side, while an attendant tries to support her. At far right a veiled woman sits in mourning at the foot of a tree to left.
