Description
On left are the protagonists ready for the hunt. On far left a man turns to right to talk to a figure in the background. Then a bearded man, wearing a skin and carrying a double axe, moves right , a hound at his feet. A bearded male stands in the background. Atalanta, holding a spear, turns to right. A youth stands in the background. One of the Dioscuri holds the arm of Meleager in the centre as he levels his spear at the boar's head. Two hounds rush against the boar and Atalanta in the background reaches forward as if stringing her bow. Tree and reeds grow behind the boar's head. Two men aim spears from behind the boar: one of them seems to hold drapery which falls around the boar- this must in fact be part of a cave surround. A youth, holding rods in his left hand, aims a spear with his right, while a wounded huntsman sinks to the ground at his feet. Far right a man wearing a cloak moves right holding a wound on his thigh. In his left hand he holds a spear, which projects beyond the corner of the sarcophagus in the round.
