Description

Content (description)

Endymion reclines left of centre in the lap of the bearded winged male, who sits on a rock in front of three trees. Luna, with billowing draperies, steps from her chariot on right. A putto stands on the back of her horse, another sits beneath its belly, and a third stands in the chariot holding a large blazing torch. A tree grows in the background. At top centre a half-draped nymph with an urn reclines on a rock. On far left stands a bearded shepherd with a bundle over his shoulder, leaning on his staff. A dog lies on the ground and looks up at him. A nude putto stands on left and leans on a torch, which points downwards.
