Description

Content (description)

The puteal itself is shown, over a panel with an illegible inscription, and on left the rest of the figure decoration, most of which has been given in Bn. 10. 48. This scene belongs on the left of the Dionysus group in Bn. 10. 48
On left are two satyrs; one is bearded and carries a krater on his shoulder to left; the other dances to right, holding a skin behind him in both hands and a jug in his outstretched right hand. In the background is a garlanded altar at the foot of a tree, from which hangs an oscillum. A curtain hangs in the background between two vases on pillars. On right two nude satyrs try to support drunken Silenus, helped by Pan on a rock mound on left. A tree grows on right; a lizard climbs its trunk. A skin hangs over the scene.
