Comments

The volume Bn 11, entitled Vase antiche, is devoted entirely to vases, some antique, but mostly fanciful products after the antique. A large number of the engravings have the initials AE. V and the representation of fanciful vases fall into three groups, distinguished by the inscriptions (a) sic Romae antiqui sculptores ex aere et marmore faciebant,
(b) ex Romanis antiquitatibus,
(c) Romae ab antiquo repertum

Description

Content (description)

The vase stands on a low flaring foot. The neck and flaring lip are fluted, the lid is knobbed and shallow. The globular shape of the vase is emphasized by two male figures in high relief, who press their backs closely against it. They have acanthus leaves instead of legs. Over their arm they support a garland of fruit, leaves and flowers, above which is a female head.

ROMAE AB ANTIQUO REPERTUM MDXXXXIII engraved below vase.
