V and the representation of fanciful vases fall into three groups, distinguished by the inscriptions (a) sic Romae antiqui sculptores ex aere et marmore faciebant,
(b) ex Romanis antiquitatibus,
(c) Romae ab antiquo repertum

Description
The body of the jug, which stands on a flared foot, is divided into three zones. The bottom zone is filled with spiral fluting; in the next, drapes hang between boukrania and rams' heads and over them are shields, garlands hang from the boukrania between the drapes, and over them are dolphins, beneath are cockle shells and snails; in the top zone are floral scrolls, which sprout from a male torso ending in leaves. The tall neck has leafy ornament with a band of 'basket work' round the middle. The handle is in the form of a horned satyr (with tail instead of legs), who stands holding in his outspread arms the shell which forms the lip of the jug; he stands on the shoulder by a bearded mask. Beneath the spout projects a half-lunette.
