(b) ex Romanis antiquitatibus,
(c) Romae ab antiquo repertum

Description
The ovoid body, which stands on a low flared foot, is divided into three zones. In the bottom zone, convex flutes, alternately narrow and wide, rise from acanthus leaves. In the central zone ships are drawn up on the waves ready for battle. In the top zone alteranate masks and rams' heads support swags of drapery, over which hang arms and armour. The lower part of the neck is decorated with leaves. The lip is fluted. The handle is formed by a hound standing on its hind legs on the shoulder, resting its forepaws on the lip and leaning into the jug.
