Comments

The volume Bn 11, entitled Vase antiche, is devoted entirely to vases, some antique, but mostly fanciful products after the antique. A large number of the engravings have the initials AE. V and the representation of fanciful vases fall into three groups, distinguished by the inscriptions (a) sic Romae antiqui sculptores ex aere et marmore faciebant,
(b) ex Romanis antiquitatibus,
(c) Romae ab antiquo repertum

Description

Content (description)

The shape of the krater is as Bn. 11 no. 47. It stands on a wide foot, its belly is decorated with convex flutings, and its double handles form coils on the lip. On the concave neck, however, boukrania support thick garlands, above which there are rosettes. From two boukrania hangs a chubby mask with leafy hair.
Beneath the krater: SIC ROMAE ANTIQUI SCULPTORES EX AERE ET MARMORE FACIEBAT 1531 AV in a cartouche
