The volume Bn 12 is described in Fa 4 as : 'Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae in loose sheets being points of ye most famous remains of buildings, amphitheatres, temples, columns, triumphal arches, mausoleums and statues in Rome - engraved by Lafrerius, Barlachus, Aen. Vicus and others'

Description

Content (description)

The actual state of the tomb is shown. It stands on a very worn high socle. On the side of the tomb a griffin leaps over a bull's head; on the front the Dioscuri, each with a horse, flank a tabula ansata, in which is an inscription [ ILS no. 1861, CIL VI 1636]. At left and right of the front are pilasters, which seem to support a gabled roof. At the corners of the roof are acroteria in the form of quarter-circles. In the acroteria facing the front a Victory kneels at a trophy; in those at the side are eagles and snakes. In the pediment stands an armed warrior in relief.
Along the lower edge is the inscription: In via Cassia, Roma, ad tertium lapidem; monumentum marmoreum; huiusmodi forma/ et ornamentis; exesum prope vetustate. Antonij Lafreri Formis Romae 1551
