Description
The Septizonium is shown in its actual state in a landscape of ruins and figures. It has three storeys. On the architrave of the first storey is the inscription: _ C TRIB POT V COS FORTUNATISSIMUS NOBILISSIMUSQUE.
Beneath the Septizonium is the inscription: LUCI SEPTIMII SEVERI CAESARIS/ IN VIA APPIA QUANTUM QUIDAM CONSEQUI CONIECTURA/ POTUERUNT SEPULCHRUM SEPTIZONII TITULO TEMPORUM/INIURIA PAENE DISTRUCTUM CETERIS PARTIB VEL/ CORRUPTIS VEL CONLABSIS NEGLEGENTIA SUPERIORIS/ AEVI MOTI QUOD SUPEREST MEMORIAM VETERUM/PROPAGANTES EFFINXIMUS/ ROMAE MDXLVI/ ANT. LAFRERI/ SEQUANI FORMIS
